Fritz Keck is a local artist best known for his "Once Upon a Time" catalog of distinctive Pittsburgh scenes. Homestead Steel Works on the Monongahela River was constructed in 1881 and bought by Andrew Carnegie in 1883. The work force peaked at 15,000. It closed in 1986 due to the downturn of the domestic steel industry.
