
Carrie Furnace on the Monongahela River, Homestead Works - 1964 | Fritz Keck
Fritz Keck is a local artist best known for his "Once Upon a Time" catalog of distinctive Pittsburgh scenes. The Carrie Blast Furnaces produced iron for Homestead Steel Works from 1907 to 1978 and operated until 1982. Peak production produced 1,000 to 1,250 tons a day. It was the site of the historic Battle at Homestead in 1892. Carrie Furnaces #6 and #7 became a National Historic Landmark in 2006.
